Are you worried about losing control of your car this winter? This is a common fear among drivers in the state. However, by remaining alert and slowing down on dangerous roads, you can avoid accidents. However, if the unpredictable strikes, then have the coverage you deserve for your family and vehicle.
The news station KIRO-TV reports that a car lost control going through a newly-built roundabout and flew into a drainage ditch, filled with rushing water. As a result of this terrible accident, there have been questions from the community about whether the accident could have been prevented. When KIRO 7 Eyewitness News morning co-anchor Chris Egert returned to the scene, he saw that construction crews had built a temporary wooden fence between the sidewalk and the running water below.
Anna Pagel, a resident of the neighborhood, expressed her concerns: "The speed limit is 40, and people come flying down that hill at 45 or 50 miles per hour.” King County says it built the roundabout to slow people down, but Pagel says that's not happening. "A lot of us in the neighborhood just feel that it is a big waste of money. They should have just left it alone," said Pagel.
A spokesperson for King County roads reports that a pedestrian handrail will go in, but there are no immediate plans to put in something that would stop a car from going over the edge. Some of the people living nearby expressed that they would like to see flashing warning lights installed by the roundabout. Egert confirmed that there are lights there, but they currently don't have power, so they were not flashing at the time of Friday's accident, according to county representatives.
It is clear that there were a variety of factors that lead to this severe accident. At Nicholson & Associates Insurance, we hope that all drivers in this neighborhood and others similar to this remain safe while driving. In addition, the reality is that not all roads have the proper markings, which is why it is the driver’s responsibility to keep everyone in the car secure.
